THE ART OF GAUGUIN: PSYCHOLOGICAL UNIVERSE IN THE FILM

SCULPTURE

A fundamental role in the narrative of the story. All wooden sculptures are characters that Gauguin relates to as if they were alive. They are pieces that symbolize the conflict between the real and the fantastic. Design: Marisabel Muñoz. Carver: José Isaac Lacruz.

PAINT

Gauguin's performance in this story focuses on the creative process of painting a large-format painting. From the trigger of the idea, the charcoal sketch, the preparation of the fabrics, the pigments to make the oils, assembling the canvas, and surrendering to the days-weeks of work to do it and save his children. Design/Painting: Marisabel Muñoz. Self-Portrait: Reynaldo Certain.

Paul Gauguin explored ceramics as his first art expression. The symbolic art is part of his household items, and roughly 60 of his pieces still survive. Our pottery recreations give him a chance to do his day-by-day in the film. Design/Creator: Marisabel Muñoz.

Prisoner in his Tahiti cabin by French colonial authorities, legendary painter Paul Gauguin was forced to paint a new masterpiece to save his five-year-old native son as he battles disease and struggles between madness and sanity. He crashed into his memories of Panama traveling and working in the Canal Construction in 1887 and the guilt of abandoning his family in Paris.
